How Does the New Nissan Altima Compare Against the Toyota Camry?

The Nissan brand stands for a variety of reputable attributes, but many reviewers and critics alike may tell you that Nissan's dedication to innovative technology and giving back to its customers to be high on their list of priorities. These priorities are exemplified quite well in the new Nissan Altima, which is regarded by many to be the leading "flag ship" of the Nissan sedan lineup. However, it might take more than just a simple paragraph to show you that the Nissan Altima is right for your daily drive, which is why we here at Team Nissan in Vineland compiled some research into the Altima and how it stacks up against another top competitor of its class: the Toyota Camry.

In researching these two midsize sedans, we found that the Camry presents a tough challenge as the Toyota brand is held in high regard for their safety features and efficiency. However, when it comes to one of their signature sedans, you might find that the Toyota brand falls short when it comes to going "above and beyond." Let us take a look at how these two daily drivers compare to each other; the Nissan Altima is available here at Team Nissan and we are less than 25 minutes outside of Glassboro.

Nissan Altima vs Toyota Camry

  • Price: While starting price may change with different upgrades, the Nissan Altima maintains a lower starting point overall, with more standard features available on all trim levels. The Toyota Camry begins at a higher starting price with a higher destination charge added on through Toyota.
  • Features: The Nissan Altima comes equipped with a lot more conveniences in all of its trim levels, even the base, with such standard interior features including an Intelligent Key with remote engine start, cargo area tie-downs, two 12-volt power outlets, and eight-way adjustable power driver and front passenger seats. While many of these features are available on the Camry, you mist upgrade to a higher trim before you can enjoy them. The front seats of the Camry come standard with six-way manual adjustable settings.
  • Safety: In addition to its convenience features, the Camry also falls short when it comes to offering a few extra safety features to improve your daily commute to Millville, including a vehicle security system and a tire-specific tire pressure monitoring system. Both of these features are standard fare on all trim levels of the Nissan Altima.
  • Fuel Efficiency: Though both of these sedans are capable of traveling a great many miles to Hammonton and back before requiring fuel, the fuel tank of the Nissan Altima can ultimately hold more unleaded gasoline at once. Combined with its lower curb weight over the Camry, and you have a more lightweight sedan which reduces excess drag and saves more fuel long-term.
  • Interior Space: These midsize sedans are also quite spacious, with both having higher passenger volumes than your average midsize model. However, the Nissan Altima comes out ahead with how its passenger volume is distributed, offering more front leg room and head room for you and your copilot to enjoy on the trip ton Washington Township, as well as more rear shoulder room for your backseat passengers. The Altima also offers more than a full cubic foot more trunk space over its challenger from Toyota.
  • Warranty: Once again, these two midsize sedans find themselves fairly equally matched in their comprehensive warranty coverage. However, the Nissan Altima offers a few more months of emergency roadside assistance, when you get stuck on the highway outside of Buena. If you are someone with a more infrequent commute, you may enjoy the extra degree of protection this difference may provide, especially during the winter months in New Jersey.
